Nasty divorce do you think parents should attend sports banquet together?

Nasty divorce over 5 years ago. Parents are both remarried. The children feel very incomfortable when the parents are even in the same vacinity of each other. The parents seem to agree on nothing. However, they think it is a good idea to go to a sports banquet and sit at the same table with the children. Just wondering if you were their friend- what would you tell them? I feel the kids are not going to be able to enjoy themselves as much as if just one of them attended. I know that they have every right to go, but who is supposed to speak up for the childrens option. It is very obvious that the children feel the tension.
