How to convince my color blind boyfriend to see the optometrist?

I found out today that my boyfriend is color blind (he can't see red, orange, or brown, they all look like varying shades of green to him) and I think he should see the doctor, just in case this is not hereditary and can be corrected. Are there any serious things that can happen from not seeing the optometrist about his color blindness?
