Can you use the "sew and turn" appliquie technique with fusible backing?

I'm an amateur at quilting and have never done applique. I found some old stars that my grandmother had quilted and I would love to applique them onto quilt squares to make a quilt. I'm wondering if I can use the "sew and turn" technique with fusible backing and then fuse them to the quilt squares...?
