Bronchitis questions!!!!!?

ok so my boyfriend was just diagnosed with bronchitis. it was going to either be that or pnemonia, i thought bonchitis was better, so i was pretty happy (or as happy as one can be...) but then a friend told me that people still die from bronchitis. is this true? should i be glad its this and not pnemonia? what is bronchitis anyway??
